This locally grown grape is a sister of the famed Gewurtraminer of the Rhone Valley, adapted for slightly colder climates. The sweet start is followed by a fruity taste and a silky warm lingering finish. It grows very well here in our vineyards in Mount Pleasant and neighboring Ruffs Dale and so this wine is made with locally grown grapes. In Germany, “gewurz” means “spicy”. As Traminette ages it takes on flavors reminiscent of the great French Sauternes. Traminette has won many worldwide prestigious awards.
The color is of golden straw, with a gorgeous glow. A sweet honey-like start proceeds to a soft palate and a lingering, warm silky finish. There are fruit flavors in this Traminette as well as spicy overtones—apricot and a hint of citrus and rose petals.
Traminette is great with the flavorful cuisines of India and the Pacific Rim and other zesty cuisines without tomato as a base. This Traminette is so enjoyable on its own—but it is perfect with sausage, fruit dishes, and fine cheese.
